Truly the greatest hitters of all time. 3,000 Hits with 300 Home Runs and a life time batting average of .300. I call it my 3000-300-.300 club.

Hank Aaron 3,771 755 .315
Stan Musial 3,630 475 .331
Willie Mays 3,283 660 .302
George Brett 3,145 317 .305

****Ted Williams did not have 3000 hits, but many say he was the greatest hitter ever and may have been. His career was interrupted by military service twice for WW II and Korean War. He was a fighter pilot.

My all-time favorite player was Stan Musial who also played on the team I have been a fan of for more years than I can remember; the St. Louis Cardinals. I believe the best all-time player was Willie Mays. He simply had it all; at the plate; on the base paths; and on the field.

The best hitter has to Hank Aaron. 755 career home runs; 3771 hits; and a life time batting average of .315 pretty well says it all. An oddity is that he never hit 50 or more home runs in a season in his career. My personal observation says that the better the team was he played on; the better he played. He was also a huge RBI man as was Musial. Brett did well in that category also, but often hit in the number 2 slot in the batting order giving him technically fewer opportunities for the RBI and did hit fewer home runs than the other three. Musial, Mays, and Aaron always hit 3rd, 4th, or 5th in their line ups thus having technically more opportunities to drive in runs.

Happy Thanksgiving Nick,

If he has no involvement with steroids you can go ahead and add José Alberto Pujols Alcántara DOB 1980 to that list, and did you intentionally leave out George Herman Ruth and Henry Louis Gehrig or was it an accident?

Pujols = 1,717 366 .334
Ruth = 2,873 714 .342
Gehrig = 2,721 493 .340

The ones left off the list either did not have at least 3000 hits or at least 300 home runs or a life time batting average of at least .300. Ruth did not have 3000 or more hits; Gehrig the same. Pujols does not have 3000 hits as well. They have to have all three to be on the list.

Ruth was a Pitcher for the first 6 years of his 22 year career and a darn good one, 94-46 with a 2.28 ERA. Aaron had 23 season to get 3,771 I think Ruth was just as if not better than Aaron.

I think by the time Pujols is done he will have comparable numbers. Look at Ruth and Gerhigs RBI's. Ted Williams was Quoted "Give me a player who hits for RBI's any day RBI's wins ballgames"

I am sure Pujols will be at the top of most lists when he is near ending his career. Them RBI's win games and Ruth had well over 2000 of them. The Yankees of course did win a lot of games. Gerhig had over 1900 and his career was shortened.

Give me Willie Mays in the 3 spot. With his hitting, speed and defense in center he's hard to top. Give me the "Say Hey kid".

I agree the 300 club is the best with a few honorable mentions i. e. Ruth, Gehrig, Kaline, Killebrew, Murray and Dimaggio just a few to mention. But if you notice the trend, there's no one since Brett who makes the list and I believe that's because of free agency and the expansion of the leagues, today's players don't get to face the same pitchers year in and year out as the players of old did, these are not accuses but facts, Koufax, Ford, Gibson and many more retired from the same team that hired them and these guys where studied by their adversaries, it’s a crying shame today.
