Nicksiders, I Have 3 young 09 birds that was coming along nicely, rolling pretty good, and consistent, kiting well with the flock, I than changed their feed to a pellet and pure wheat mix, they became 300 ft plus roll downs. Hitting the ground in full roll. Are these now considered "culls"? When they were fed the grain mix they flew and rolled good sometimes getting 40 ft rolls, going right back to the kit and rolling again, not getting any where close to hitting the ground, would the feed change have caused them to get too hot to fly? I have been resting them for 2 weeks now, feeding just pellets, I plan on given them another try. ---------- Lew

I believe they would be if they become a special needs project. If you have to feed them differently than the rest of the kit(s), again, I would say they are culls.
I would take them and the rest of the kit(s) back on the grains and see what happens. I would resist having them on grain and the rest of the kit(s) on pelletts. Becareful of consumming all of your time with special need birds when there are so many things to do and limited time to get'er done. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Although there is no such thing as a perfect bird. Instead of culling your bad birds you could always have a kit of "Stiffs" (RL's word). You fly your stiffs first to feed the BOP and then let your good birds out after they have had their fill and moved on. Of course you don't breed from these birds so they don't enter the gene pool, but you might just save a few good performers and future breeders from your good kits in the long run.

Dave that is a good Idea BUT it dont always happen that way, alot of times that fist kit will just catch a falcons eye from a distance and by the time he gets there I will be on my 2nd or 3rd kit, I try that every year and eventually just end up locking down for goods like 2 week ends ago lol
