Good morning Tony....
I was wondering how much of the Rx antibiotic Terramycin (Pfizer product) do you mix with 2 gallons of water for roller pigeons?
....also
Once you've mixed the Terramycin with water, how long can you store it in a sterile container and it still maintain its effectiveness?

Marcus, as much as I would like to help, as I am not a vet, I cannot tell you what to do. And because a number of people will perhaps give you differing responses, I highly recommend that you invest in continuing self-education by purchasing this book entitled: AVIAN MEDICINE: PRINCIPLES AND APPLICATION.
It never ceases to amaze me that people will pay allot of money for birds and pay huge feed bills but will often not spend a nickle toward acquiring knowledge to properly care for their stock. You can purchase from Foys Pigeon Supply. Go check it out.

You can find that same book in PDF form and save yourself some money. Google avain medicine principles and applications. chapter 44 is on pigeons. Its a pretty hefty book, i borrowed it from the library, not soo fun to carry in the backpack along with all my other stuff. But the phyiscal book is also nice. Just giving ya an option without sacrificing knowledge gain.

Or you can attend vet school, which currently I would recommend, in 3 years, probably wouldnt recommend once the loans need to be paid off. steep...

never use city water with chlorine in it to medicate your birds. I learned this the hard way. Several year of medication but still loosing birds due to using water with chlorine in it. What a sad period in my roller life. If you have to use clhlorine water let is set in an open container for about 24 hrs and the chlorine will dissipate Richard

Personally I have very little problem medicating my birds when necessary. The key goal here is improving wellness, healthcare and avianic medicine practices by asking different sources which method they utilize to administer Rx to their flock.

Richard thanks for the tip regarding chlorine in water. So how long would you store a mixture of the antibiotic Terramycin [Oxytetracyline HCI] in a sterile container?
I've stored it for about a month before, but threw it out because I wasn't exactly sure of the shelf life of the diluted mixture.
