can any one tell me Y my breeder would not let me touch their eggs every time i try lift them up the check the egg or even try to put my hand close to the nest they would peck my hand/finger and hit me wit there wing? in the past a lot of some of my breeder would abandon their nest cause i touch the eggs or lifted them off the nest. i really wanna try fostering but I'm afraid that if i take the fosters egg out and put my good pairs eggs n the foster would abandon the nest and the good pair wont want the nest any more. any help???i saw on you tube some people can just touch their bird that is still setting on eggs and they wouldn't even care.

That is strange try to pull the switch after dark but if you are fostering you need fake eggs for a few days. Dennis

Shoua, It is just natural for the birds to defend their nest. When you are ready to exchange the eggs, slip your fingers under the nesting bird and remove the eggs they are sitting. Place the eggs to be fostered back in the same manner. Make sure the eggs being fostered are within three days of the eggs you are removing from the foster pair. I wait until I have checked the donor eggs for fertility before making the switch. Keep detailed records so the parentage is certain. Everyday when I clean or just visit, I handle my birds or just touch the nesting birds. This is not necessary but I find it makes me happy and it is easier to manage the birds when they are used to being touched.

530 your good pair will lay again in 10 days so get another foster ready, you can hold eggs for about 10 days in room temp but you have to turn them every 6-8 hours. Dennis

530,
It sounds stupid but be careful how you hold the egg/s when you pull them out of the nest. I have had a sitting bird wing slap my hand and cause me to break the egg.
