I was interested in getting a dog but i don't really know enough about dogs to know which type of breed i should get. I want a dog that isn't too big. More of a medium size, lets say 30lbs to 60lbs. Also a dog that will work well with babies and young children around. If anyone can help out...it would be greatly appreciated.

Tou
I have a lab, great dog. my daughter slept in in its kennel when she was 6 months old with the puppy. The dog was 10 weeks.
My wife calls the dog a Labrador Retreater though. But I think she would defend the family if she felt harm was to occur. Very little grooming. great family dog.

You cant go wrong with a lab, and you definately cant go wrong with a lab mix from the pound(or many dogs from the pound) I worked at a humane society for a while, and there you will find some great dogs, but definitely put in the time to interact with them please, if your looking for an older animal. I had an American Stafforshire Terrier that slept in my bed every night from time I was 6 to 17. Great childhood dog.

tou2son, I agree, go for the Lab, they can't be beat for a family dog, as to size there are two main styles of Labs, the block-head, heavy bodied, English Labs and the Slimmer more rangy American's, I like the little girl Labs best, 60 lb max.

She hates cats, trespassers and birds on the ground. She loves my kids and my wife and minds better than both.

Your Right V99 she is a great dog first time I meet her didn't know what she was going to do- stood at back and barked until you came out then keep a close eye on me-- now we are good friends- doesn't bark at me anymore. but labs are great family dogs they like kids and will protect them. Boxers make great family pets also very protective of kid too.My daughter has 2 and you don't mess with kids the male will take you out.You have to put him up before you punish one of the kids and they are now teenagers. Lots of good family dogs out there!!! Good luck with hunt. God BLESS!!!
