What is the one worst mistake that you made when starting out in rollers or pigeons in general?
Mine was not paying attention to the birds and paying more attention to the name associated with the birds.

Trying to rush flying, flying in less than ideal conditions, lack of patience...would like to document everything better i.e. fly times, feed amounts, weather conditions, etc.

Moving from California to Arkansas(LOL). Just joking; I am having a blast here. Takes less time to do anything here and a hell of a lot of less money to do it.

My actual worse mistake was to let a salesman talk me into a family of pigeons. I allowed him to stroke my ego and feed my competiveness. I wasted 6 years of my life and now it will take me 4 or 5 years to put together a team good enough to be competitive with my new family. I will be in my 70's. Still handsome, but older.

Pinwheel let me explain.for instance there was times I let my birds out to fly and two would stay in well they were telling me something is wrong out there and I force them to fly and sure enough I lost one to BOP.
another time they came down too early they were force back up meanwhile they were telling me they were too hungry or under nourish or too heavy to fly.again I should had listen or when they telling me they need a bath,or rest.. these are just a few example..as experience kicks in I learn to listen to my birds more and become better with management. .hope this helps..peace out..

The biggest mistake that most make is falling in love with the first birds they get.

That couldn,t be a truer statement Scott. The unwillingness to move to something better instead of trying to breed from something that lacks quality is a loosing battle that guys do all the time. Joe

I think the worst mistake that anyone can make is not keeping GOOD written records of the birds you breed, because of that mine all went to the dog trainer so I guess that I was not in love with them. Dennis

I had a severe brain fart this year and gave EVERYTHING away
or sold for pennies on the dollar.
Birds, books, cages, my whole outfit
and collection... EVERYTHING

Years of hard work gone in the blink of an eye.

Things are looking better.
Now I have to start all over again.
