Best rolling up and coming cock (never rolls for less than 30 feet, and rolls about every 8 or 9 seconds) is less than interested in nesting or breeding. Took him out of the kit because of hawk, put him with hen, he likes her, but won't make a nest or encourage her to lay eggs. Finally decided to 'test' him and put another cock in with them. He immediately went to her defense and kept the new cock away, but still won't breed, and she's practically flipping him she's backing up to him so aggressively. Others are breeding this time of year (here on the Texas gulf coast), but I am wondering if it's the time of year, or his youth? Is there hope for him? (He's red ash from winning bloodlines.)

How old is he? How cold is it where he is living? How old is the hen?
Some times it just doesn't work and you may have to look for another hen for him.

Laura... if it is spinning 30ft every 8 to 9 seconds, you might want to wait on thanking about breeding that cock for something is going to give. A roll down is a very likely probability.JDA

I dont know if you medicated or not. If you did, sometimes it will take them a little longer to mate. I usually try to wait 15 days after I medicate to pair them up ---------- BIG WILLY TOPP FLIGHT/NCRC

Wendy, I would place him in a cage for about a week or even 2 weeks. Keep the hens away from him. Then re-introduce the hen, that should fix the problem.

Laura,
You could put a light on them 24/7...This time of year when I put my pr's together I keep a light on to supplement for the shorter day light time period...I also have better luck when feeding hard grain as aposed to pellets..After they get going with their egg laying cycle I switch them back to a 17% pellet...Hope this helps...Kev

I give a vitamin E tablet every other day helps enhance sexial functioning.make sure it has plenty of light 16 hrs a day or more..a 100 watt bulb is good during winter hours when the daylight is less then 10.because the ovarys and testes of the birds shrink.so we need to stimulate the pituirary glands which in term regulate the hormones in both cocks and hens. try separating them with nothing but a screen in between them as to you can see me but you can't touch me for about week but I would wait if this bird is young and for the reason JDA stated above..I would see if its stable for at least 1yr and 1/2 since some folks don't like to wait for 2 years because of BOP..rolling is one thing but being stable is another.. ---------- Ralph.
