I would suggest that you hand toss anything rolling especially your A team. Hand toss only three or four at a time until they get up to a decent higth, above the trees, then toss a few more until you get them all flying.

After a lock down you have to have them hungry to trap in again but you want to feed them enough to fly also.

I would not consider a bird that rolldown and killed itself a roll down unless it rolls down from any hieght or cannot get off the ground without rolling down. Bumpers are a bad trait to have in your blood lines or breeding stock. I once say a guy let out a kit of Jaconettes and 5 bumped with one getting hurt pretty bad. Allow them to cull themselves or cull them yourself. I think new guys are tempted to stock them but its a mistake big time. Bill C

hey Scott, how about following that statement with what YOU'RE thinking? a lot of us are newbies here, and this is where we come to learn. most of us who have our flyers in lockdown would benefit from the best way to prepare for spring release.

Rollers react differently to re-flying after lockdown.
I am currently re-flying some birds that have been locked up in an aviary for around 15 months.
Some just go out and fly, and don't even tumble much the first few flys. You wouldn't think they has been in lockdown except maybe dropping earlier than the fitter birds.Others get over excited and may take weeks to settle down. You will need plenty of patience with these birds. Some may never go back to being good kitters, but most will, given time.
