I was on here about 8 or 9 months ago wanting advise of Rollers. I had them as a kid and even posted some old pics form my flypen and some birds. I WAS going to get some birds but city code said I couldn't have fowl. BUTTHEADS. If this economy EVER pics back up, I WILL be moving to the country and get more birds. I miss them so much

Don... Do you have a copy of your city code? Have you read it to say that pigeons were considered fowl? Also look and ask around about racing homer clubs in the area. You might have to just buy a permit or register your birds with the city.I just can,t see them not having racing homers and thous people know the in and outs of flying laws.Good Luck JDA

Don...pigeons are not fowl

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
It would depend on how one defines "poultry".

Strictly speaking, pigeons are not considered poultry. Here's why.

Poultry refers to domesticated fowl birds, and fowl birds are birds such
as chickens, geese, ducks, pheasant, turkeys, etc. The reason those
birds are bunched together as "fowl" is that they are all from the same
avian order known Galliformes.

Pigeons (and doves), on the other hand, come from a different order of
birds, known as Columbidae. Pigeons are part of a larger group of birds
known as Passerines, or perching birds. Galliformes (chickens, turkeys,
geese, ducks, etc.) are not part of the Passerine group.

So, from a scientific viewpoint, pigeons are not considered poultry.

I actually called the code enforcement guy and asked him what the deal was. He's the one that told me they considered them fowl and I couldn't have them. I was so pumped to be getting birds again so it really deflated me. Thanks guys and I'll do some more checking into it. Right now my daughter is getting married may 22nd so my funds to build a loft are kinda LOW LOL Just be glad when this is over with, WAYYY to much stress on an old man

Don't move to Prescott Valley, AZ either. The "City" Code there is the same. They have classified any and all birds (pigeons, chickens, parrots, etc) as "Fowl" and they may not be kept within the City Limits.
