Simple, if you are using Monty as the last great, he was a "great" for his talents are flying competitive teams of rollers. His birds were not better than anyone elses. He was better than most at making a team work their asses off. People tend to forget that. So who would replace him. Look at the top 10 from the WC and NBRC Fall Fly and those who you see constantly repeating are the ones to consider. I see five or six guys on both lists who could be the Number One". There are lots of guys who have done a lot for the breed and have bred great birds that helped other with their families, but I wouldn't consider them someone to replace a Monty. Totally different people and circumstances.

Now that was funny! Must be Starving Comedian Night at the Roller-Pigeon...lol. I'd be happy making the top ten on either list once before my life is over.

My best bet would be someone that plays this game outside of thier own backyard,I would say that as far as N. America goes it would be John Wiens out of B.C. Canada or maybe even Jay Starley out of Utah,John would be my first Choice, and I sure wouldn't forget about Don Oullete either.

Tony,
I agree with Nick and Brian. This is getting out of hand. If I can punch a number in Google and come up with a name and addy, why are you even considering the censoring you have been doing? Took me 3 minutes to find Gary Stephens addy,e mail and phone number.

This is the information age and the offended parties will just have get over it. They publish their number in the NBRC and other sites. They are the minority and we are the majority. You and this site are not at fault. As you just said you can`t please everyone, which is what you are trying to do.It isn`t your fault or responsibility to be responsible for the actions of other flyers.

Go back to the thrilling days of yesteryear when this site was the rough and tumble wild west of rollers.

If they don`t kit,they don`t score.
Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly.
It`s a comp thing,understand?

Hey Vel, I stuck my tail between my legs and am apologizing to you and some others by email and to anyone who saw it and posted in response. (Dr LD as well. Can't find your email)

That blush on my face is yes, embarrassment.

Being number one, what does that mean?, I know quite a few people that are not as famous or notourious that have flown quality rollers as the persons that are mentioned, you all know that in this game , that there is alot of people that want to ride on the shadow of those that made a name for them selfs(given respect to them), so who is number one ,well there is quite a few who breed quality, high calibre pigeons that i give ther props to (back yard master breeders).

Richard I believe the original intent of the question was in regards to competition and who could be considered as someone who is as successful as Monty was. Monty was undoubtedly #1 in this sport, the sport of flying competition. That is what being the best means in this context.

I don't think there is much doubt about it, currently, that the #1 kit of birds being flown in competition, both World Cup and NBRC Fall Fly, is Clay Hoyle, with Joe Bob Stuka not far behind. These are the men to beat right now, and that won't be easy.

Without question it would be Hiene Beiker(sp) Holland behind him it would be Don Oullete.
That is if you are talking fly records , if it was popularity then who knows

Well, I can't argue with Scott on this. Hiene Bijker and Don Ouellette are consistantly high in the rankings even during Monty Neible's days. I love consistancy! It is the test of a true champion. I also recognize the works of Jerry Higgins.....he is always present in every fly he competes in it seems. Peter Handy is right there and has a great attitude about what he does. Joe Bob Stuka and Clay Hoyle.....something has to be said there as well. Then there is a bunch that are probably one or two wins away from getting the same mention.

To sum up: Hiene Bijker and Don Oellette definitly.

PS - I have a right to change my mind(LOL).

These would sure be my votes.. I don't think either could handle Monty, but I do think they come the closest of those today,, Mongrel Lofts
