I have a 2007-hen , when bred she lays her 2 eggs and then 3 days later she drops 2 more eggs. Has anyone experience this?

When I raise parakeets they would lay 4 eggs in each nest, but not my rollers. Sounds like you have 2 hens together, let them set awhile than candle the eggs and see if they are fertile. ---------- Lew

4 eggs = 2 hens...lol Seriously tho, I don't think it is possible for a hen to lay 4 eggs in that many days.. ---------- MJ

I agree most likley 2 hens. You could wait 5-7 days and candle all of the eggs to be safe.

If your breeding open loft, those hens eggs could be fertile. Good Luck. Glen.

Can a pair raise 4 eggs/babies by themselves? I have a pair that layed on the loft floor , so I put the eggs in with some old breeders that dont lay much ... and of course they layed their eggs. They only produce about 4 in a season because of age.

Larry,
That all depends on the pair. You have some that are really good parents...those are usually the ones feeding all the young when they are on the floor. I have 3 pairs in my loft that can and have done it no problem. I dont do it back to back that is for sure. I have only done it a couple times. Now those same pairs can raise 3 no problem at all...I have done that quite often...when I have three pairs lay at the same time...I will then split one pairs eggs...mark them with a sharpie.....and each pair will raise three young....then I mark the young with a sharpie....when they hatch.
