I got around to releasing my birds today a little later than usual. My friend and I were admiring some decent rolls and talking birds when the kit scattered 40ft above. I new the sound as soon as it came. A low wistle like that of a car a long way off. It increased to a low buzz and slam, a female coopers hits a young bald cock that had strayed to far from the kit. They tumble 30ft or so to the neighbors yard. My friend runs to the front of the neighbors house to get permission to get the bird, as I watch the coopers try twice to leave the ground with the young pigeon. By the grace of God my other neighbor happened to let his dog out and it ran to the fence spooking the hawk of its prey. We jump the fence and retrieve the scared but uninjured bird as the hawk alights on a near by branch for a moment. After seeing that the game was up she then took to the sky to join not one but two more adult coopers in the air. They circled for a few minutes only the retreat into the blue.

Yeah I took the picture right after he got hit. Right now I am flying Pensom/Reed birds. But I still have a lot to learn. This year I am focusing on finding a few foundation pairs to start with and I'll try to work from there. The birds I have now were givin to me by a local flyer. The kit I am flying now is just for fun but I am working on getting decent stock to begin flying competition with.

Pretty Bird and glad the Coop left empty handed. O lost a young cock (NBRC 09 I 405) on the morning of 8 April (9:15 Thursday). The cock was a dunn who was born in June of last year. It pissed me off when I realized which one the HAwk got as I counted/took roll after the attack. I am happy you got your bird back though. ---------- DJJeffman Spinners
