I had a major bought with Paratyphoid. Lost all the eggs and new hatch young from 1st and 2nd rounds and over 2/3 of my 3rd round. That was with using Amoxycillinum power. Talking with Dick Ricker owner of Jedds in SO.CAL,He recommended I try a new product called (Avian powder 4oz) and (Avian Solution 4fl oz). Started treatment on Wen for 6 days. Can seen the growth as they are now able to take feed from parents. All 7 young left from 3rd round are now banded.Next step after Wednesday,Vaccinate with (Sal Bac). I will always have Avian and Sal Bac in my birds meds. Liq 1.5 squirts in 1gal, Powder mix in feed 1/2tsp.Use both at the same time.JDA

JDA I also had a bought with this sickness, glad you were able to cure it. Can I ask a couple of questions? Is Vac with sal bac necessary if you have cured your birds with the meds? Did you give the medicine to all your birds? Does sal bac vac for all strains of Paratyphoid? ---------- Lew

Lew..Vita King products told me to Vac with Sal Bac to keep it out. But that was before I talked with Dick Ricker of Jedds. I,am going to vaccinate on Wednesday to be on the safe side.I was told it works on the problem I had,I don,t know about all strains.I know that Avian killed the Paratyphoid on contact for me.Yes all my birds got Avian. Thanks JDA that's good info to share, the paratyphoid is nasty stuff, it hits without warning, I too hope its gone and stay's away. How often will you need to vac, and will you have to do all the birds or just the breeders? ---------- Lew

Rodents cause this problem. If you are sure you don't have them then check the feed you purchased. The feed could have been contaminated with rodents droppings.
Your best prevention is to eradicate rodents from around the loft. If you don't see them, it doesn't mean you don't have them.
However, once the bird is a carrier of the disease, they are always a carrier and bound to spread it again.
