I read in a previous post to determine if an egg is fertile was to use the candle method. Again no explanation as to exactly how to do it or what to look for. I'm pretty sure that the candle has to be lit and the egg is held between the candle and the eye but could someone explain exactly what to do and what to look for. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to look for spots in the egg and not my eyes.

You dont use a real candle lol. You use a flashlight. If you need some visual aid try using youtube and looking around...plenty of videos on how to candle.

After the 2nd egg has been layed give it about 5-7 days then take one egg at a time and hold it above your flashlight. If you see red veins in it means it is fertile. If you just see yellow yolk then it means it's not fertile. Then repeat the process for the other egg. The best time to do this is at night when its dark. You will get better at this the more you do it.

Sometimes I wont even have to use a flashlight and I can simply hold the egg up to the light bulb in the loft or if its sunny sometimes I will just hold the egg up into the sun and can see whether its fertile or not.
