i'm almost 6' tall, and am wondering if i should increase the interior height a few inches in my new breeding loft. since i would most likely use a wire ceiling to keep the birds from getting out of reach and a bit wild, what would be the reason i might want to go higher than my height?

Hey Steve, I like seven and one half feet. I can reach every thing but I don't bump my head. I'm also six feet. :)

Steve..I have to agree with Thom. My loft height slopes from 6' up to 10' but, at 7 1/2' I have slats across the top to limit it to 7 1/2' in height.

Game, i was just looking to minimize the size of the building, but there's no real reason i can't make it 7' at the outside walls. in my mind, thats' the way i was going to do it, but wanted to know if others had any reason to stay with a certain height. i'm actually considering making two lofts, since one large loft will need to have a concrete slab, and a bldg permit will be required. something like Al McAteer's setup.

i'm thinking of making one loft on the east side where i was going to make the big loft. now, if all goes well, i'll leave room to make another close by, or on the other side of the house where i have a ton of room, but no shade.

Steve check your building codes one big loft might be the way to go .Here the height of the structure determines weather you need a permit or not, not the size. Dennis
