Da hole da hole LOL,the type has changed in many of the birds to shorter in every aspect and most families have lost the longer cast and on top of it the "true" hole come's from perfection of the bird as far as balance and style and it takes a particular type,I think that the key here is the "true" hole, its rare in even the families that maintained the type and was and is a sign of excellance, the birds of today are bred for the illusion of speed which is why we have the smaller shorter cast bird, now I have to be honest here and say that out of all the kits that I've stood under from West coast to East coast I've only seen the hole once in perfection and if I hadn't of seen it that one time I wouldn't know what it was to this day, many many times I've heard people comment on a bird showing the hole and have even heard it said about some of my own birds and my only thought is "that aint it" ,just my thought here.

P.S. our brothers in Europe don't ever make mention of the hole and could care less about it.

the hole is not easly seen ,you need the right angle and light and height to be able to see it. don't put all the blame on your birds there probably better than you think. jerry

the hole, didnt believe until I saw it, only once and it was up close say about a 80 or 100 up only.never saw it agian, from my perspective, I think that todays birds are bred more short cast and roll much tighter, therefor few holes are seen. i would say that a longer cast bird who dose not tuck in as tight, but spins very fast will have more pabability to show the hole. it exist guys.

Thong if that was the case than woudn't the hole prevail much more on the lesser birds that are longer cast ?

Yes you are right it does exist and once you see it you it,what the hole shows is ultimate balance of the bird in the roll(ballbearing smooth) , and no they don't need to be blazers to show it.
The hole fanatics are a funny lot and its all they talk about like there is nothing else, funny you don't see it blaring out in thier backyards either.

I still see the hole. The big problem I find is the bird has to be facing you in the perfect position in order to see it. If it is rolling straight at you you can't see it. It also takes time and experience in order to see it.
Just My Two Cents!!

Today's birds are bred more different then yester years in my opinion. No doubt, the sharing of good birds has helped the hobby but to see the hole is rare now a days in our current day birds in my opinion.
A fancier here told me that he use to have Clyde Davis's old family and almost every one of them suckers he bred could show the hole. The birds were rather large or huge.
Now a days, the birds tend to be small even dove size in most cases.
The hole is still there, just that the birds changed for better or worst... that is your opinion - as it is your ideal.
I find that in my birds, the birds that do show the hole are long casted and strong. The hole is nice to have but it doesn't dictate my decision to stock. As I have seen very fast rolling 'Axle' style rollers able to show the hole. I have also seen a couple of 'X' style rollers able to show the hole. The hole in my opinion is just an illusion. The illusion I am after is the 'no wings' visiable but that is rare and I will be happy to get anything close to it for now in my breeding program.
As I have heard, my breeders today may be tomorrow's culls.
The hole, I believe it is more so on long casted birds. Today's birds tend to be either to small or cobby.
Thor

P.S. I don't believe you need to be experienced to see the hole. That is total BS in my opinion. grin. All one needs is a good eye and a side view of a capable bird. You also need one good eye.
The only time you need experience is how to tell a good roll from a bad one. It takes alot of observation to actually start to see the different styles capables of these birds. Experience will soon prevail when you see that ultimate roll and this will cause you to open your eyes.
