Hello guys, just would like to get static on individual breeding boxes floor. What kind of floor you have plywood or mesh wire?
Plywood breeding boxes floor really get messy and need cleaning every week. I do clean them just to make sure babies would not get disease but the problem is, it really disturb babies and parents...One the other hand if I have wire floor all I need to do is pull out the poop tray clean it and put it back no need to disturb parents and babies and there would be less chances for babies to get disease because they really would not get in contact with poops
If you have to re-build your breeding box what would you prefer wire mesh floor or plywood?

Hello Siddiqir, I can add some insight here. I have wire floor (half inch I think) in my kit boxes. The best thing about wire floor is that most of the time the poop goes right through it and if it stays on the wire it will soon dry out due to the air running through it. One thing some think is that you will not have to scrape the floor anymore if you add wire floor but that is false. You will still have to scrape to get the poop of the wire but as far as what is cleaner, by far it's wire floor.
It will be a bit of work to add wire and a pan to every breeding box but considering the outcome, I think it is well worth it. The only problem is that you will have as many pans to clean as you will have breeding boxes. I'd go for wire floor if you have the resources and time bud. Hope this helps.

I have two separate coops one for breeding with plywood floor and one for my fliers which has a wire mesh floor. The wire mesh is a lot easier to clean in my opinion. My nest boxes are mounted above the floor my birds seem to like it. Good luck!

Rauf funny I was just thinking about this the other day as I was cleaning my individuals, mine are all plywood and I use ground corn cobb on the floor of them, this works fine but is a real pain cleaning as I have to scrape it out and then I hit it with a shop vac,I don't think that I would care for wire floor in them due to you really need 1 x 1 as the smallest that will not clog up and I like to put my youngsters on the floor of the Ind. very young and I think that they would have a very hard time on the wire at that age, what I'm thinking is just a tray that slides in and out and contiue with the ground cob on the bottom of that, just pull out and dump,no fuss and no muss. Yes Scott, cleaning would not bother so much however I am always worry that youngster are sitting in poops for week or so until I clean and some time it smell very unpleasant. When do you move youngsters to loft floor? It sounds like better idea as they will have more room?
Thanks, -Rauf

Rauf you just clean them, but location and time of year play's a big part in how often you must clean, for instance here in N. Calif from June on through Oct. we get "dry" heat and the dropping dry quik and there's really no need to clean often except around the nest bowl but this doesn't apply in the early Spring and Winter as the droppings don't dry out and then cleaning becomes regular, there's nothing wrong with dry droppings and they actually makes a good litter, now if you live in a humid climate that may not apply,it's when you have moisture and standing wet droppings that you must clean often as warmth and moisture can easily become your worst enemy as this is what bacteria grows in,now I'm talking about Ind. breeding boxes here, all of my kitboxes have 1x2 welded wire as floors and a tray underneth. Yes Scott as you mentioned it is more function of climate. I am in high humidity area + every other day it rains that make thing even worst. Dry heat has lot of benefits.
Thanks, -Rauf

You guys can solve your problem very easily. Go to the hardware store (i.e. Home Depot) and get the 16" or 12" wide melamine wire shelving that is used for the closets racks. Cut to the size of the next box and build a tray under it to support the wire shelf and for easy cleaning and Walla your problem is solved. Here is a webpage that will illustrate for you:
http://www.racingbirds.com/acess10.html
This website will explain to you exactly how to build it. It is so easy and wouldn’t take much time from you at all. I hope this will help allot of you who would like to clean the next boxes with ease.

Santandercol, I am in Central New Jersey. I have built individual cages for breeding and they seem to work fine...very easy cleaning, no disturbance...
Here are pics of individual cages...
