This is my first year flying birds i bred from Danny Horner stock. My question is to others who fly his birds. What do you feed your birds out of his stock as far as what grains, the amount, and do you feed them differently than Danny recommended?
I have my birds out of his stock on a 15% pigeon mix with NO POPCORN, they are just starting the molt and show there sexes and was curious if i change to say just wheat what are the effects i could expect?

There performance has been wonderfull and I like his line of birds alot better so far than another well know California fanciers birds.
I was just curious to know others opinions on there feed management of birds that are out of Dannys bloodline. Currently i am very pleased with what they do on the 15% mix, curiousity just got the best of me on what others feed his bloodline.

THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES.

JDA, He said straight wheat. I use the 15% mix because it is very easy to come by compared to wheat in my area.
I am just wanted to hear others experiences with what they feed there birds from Danny.

JDA, do you have and fly anything from Danny?

polar Bear 15% is way to rich for any kit Bird that is already on the wing 15% is good for some Birds that are just weaned but once they are flying as a kit they should only get 12% of whatever Kind of feed you choose to feed them . if you do decide to feed 15% because thats all you can get just feed them less, that should do the trick. If the Cocks are landing and chasing the Hens they are being fed to much that is my opinion.

I am Happy to hear you like the Horner Jaconettes , I also Like them I only feed my kit Birds 12% mix with no popcorn and they do just fine. I only increase the Protien % when they are in the moult.

The mix I use consist of wheat, milo and peas , real simple mix.

Good luck in the Fall Fly if you decide to Fly.

George, I have the ability to get several mixes in different protein levels.
So with the Horners would you recommend a 12% mix then instead of the 15%. I have been giving my birds the 15% since they were squeekers, I did not want to cheat them of anything so i stuck with the 15%.
Now they are just finishing there molt so would now be the time to go to the 12%?
The mixes availiable are made by Winners Cup, that come out of California. I am just trying to keep the feeding schedule and the grain type as simple as possible, as i fly for my own enjoyment only. Thats why i was wanting to stay will a mix grain to kit birds, since it is the easiest to get and purchse compared to wheat.

George with your Jacs in your area how much of the 12% mix are you giving to how many birds? I am just wondering a base line measurement to keep the birds flying for around 30 minutes or so.

While on the subject... how many of you up the protein when you cut back on the amount of feed?
