When we think of loft security, we think of locks, dogs, motion detector lighting.......! Yet we open our arms and allow gangs of dirty old men and lovely ladies in, and we smile! We shake hands and smile some more! We gladly show off our brood loft and we smile! Then they go home and we smile!! :) Well you can only have so much fun.

What is left behind after the fun has faded? What came in on their clothes, on their hands and shoes may remain for years, perhaps forever in our lofts.

I suggest that we implement a standard for allowing anyone to come near our birds. At a bare minimum, sanitizing hand wipes and that's for our friends! People we don't know, like judges and their entourage or out of town visitors, dirty old men like me! A disposable paper medical sterilized garment and a disinfecting wash in a pan for our shoes. Pigeon men should be the first willing to comply and if they are offended, I'm sorry but they will not be allowed into my loft or to handle my birds.

Drastic? Perhaps but what value do you place on your birds?

Take care my friends

Thom I different from you here our pigeons are very hearty you see commies bathing in the city ponds with rotten carcasses in them, I think if you allow they will have a very hearty immune system, we are not at a Yale white coat lab with butties for are feet. Come the way you are leave with shit on your soles,at my loft. Dennis

Hey Donny, I always wash when I touch anything in my loft. After I feed or anytime I handle the birds. Salmonella is a big concern for our health!

I hope you are feeling better!
Take care my friend!

Dennis, My friend, I don't care about any commie unless it joins in with my birds and lands on the loft. Then it has a problem! I don't even care that I get crap on my shoes because I'm going to sanitize them before I go into my loft. My point is there are viruses that are transferable from loft to loft by contact. I often worry too much about too little, but that is just me.

Take care my friend
