I had rollers as a kid-a long time ago. In the spring of 2003, a friend and I decided to get rollers once again. We located a NBRC member in Eastern New York and purchased 30 '02 birds from him. (I use the term "purchased" quite loosely=the price was so minimal it didn't even cover the cost of feed.) He told us that the birds were not frequent enough for competition. They are stiff, but when they do perform they are jaw-droppers. Deep, fast with outstanding control. Plan to try tweaking them next season and see what happens. Wanting something mor competition oriented, I bid on and won the birds that Dave Szabaturra donated to the NBRC auction. When I went to pick them up, he gave me a sibling pair to the auction cock. I've been treated fairly by roller men!

We were treated very generously, too. When we bought a young pair of rollers from a man who was moving, he put in an extra bird for us, and we essentially only had to pay a little more than postage for them, and they have been very fine birds. Then Mr. Oullette here in Reno brought over a hen to give us and he freely shared all his experitse with us and invited us to his place to watch his rollers.

I have. I purchased some rollers from a well known breeder. He sent more than twice the rollers I asked. I know guys that would give $500.00 a pair for these same birds, but the gentleman and friend sent them to me without charging a dime extra. He did not only treat me fair but like a brother.

last yr i got back into rollers after a 4 mth lay_off, found i couldn't stay away , go figure huh?..lol Anyways , a friend called me saying he saw an ad at the feed store for high flying rollers for sale, and it was a semi local number..half hr trip, so i called. I went to see these birds , with a mitt full of cash , and walked away with 20 high flyers that i paid $150.00 for , plus he tossed in a nice canvas collapsable carry cage like new. I felt i was treated more than fair, and the gent and myself stay in close contact to this day. In 30 yrs of breeding rollers, i have never sold a bird to anyone. Any and all the birds ive parted with , i have given away. I feel that this is the best way to get anyone new to the hobby a good head start and a good feeling about pigeon breeders in general. After all , we know how fast we can become over stocked again , as these little sweeties love to breed. Lets keep up the good work , and always go by the GOLDEN RULE...do unto others.

Hey George,
I haven't heard from you in a while. Have you gotten anything good out of those pairs yet?

Hi guys Norm here, When I first started in this hobby I bought several birds at the “ FLEA MARKET “ and was told that they are the best of the best. After having them for about year and half or so and learning all that I needed to be a decent roller-man I got hold of Tom McDaniel and talked to him for a while. He GAVE me around 40 birds including some of his BEST breeders for $0.00 FREE. So have I been treated fairly?? Hell yeah, I have . Thank you very much. Later

I got my birds last fall from Ivan Hanchett at a steal in my opinion given Ivan's reputation and competition success. He didn't know me from Adam but after a few emails and phone conversations, he sent me an email out of the blue with a heck of a deal. He also makes himself available for questions by email or phone anytime which I've really taken advantage of. When the birds reached breeding age, he mated the pairs up for me and has given me lots of guidance on how to fly and feed them, how he breeds, and history on the family.
Ken Billings has given me a great deal of knowledge and told me I'm welcome at his loft anytime to see his birds fly. He is always educating me in the NBRC Chat room which is where I go when I'm looking for quick responses to crazy things that have just happened to me or concerns regarding my birds.
Paul Fullerton has offered me rounds of birds and has been a great source of answers by email and phone and was the first guy I talked to by phone when I was looking at getting into rollers. He's simply fun to talk to and I always really look forward to reading his posts here. He's equally as entertaining when he writes.
I have exchanged a number of emails with Scott Campbell who has also always been extremely willing to let me pick his brain both by email and here also.
This site and the hobby in general are full of exceptional roller men and women. It's made all the difference in the world to me in getting into rollers.

Let me count the ways!!!LOL!
Of course there is Grand Master Scott Campbell...who I have had the pleasure of talking with on the phone, e-mailing and standing under his kits on numerous occasions. He is a top notch flyer, Breeder and person. When I lost my A team..he posted to call him...I did and he offered up about 35 birds of mixed ages to fly out...so that I could fly in the world cup, that was about 3 months away. He has also given me great birds to breed from. An awesome Black 03 Cock with white tail and 98 RR Hen are my top breeders and have produced excellent spinners. Now that I have some nice offspring in the kit box...the breeder pair will now move to Brian Middaugh to reap the wealth!!! Brian Flys Campbell /Billings birds and they would be a perfect fit. Scott is always there to pick the brain and talk birds..I get a smile when I see Campbell Construction on the caller I.D.
Chuck Roe..3 oustanding breeders in my loft...2 hens a cock. Very good producers. He has the Jacs that hold up and do not fall apart. He has been a top flier like Scott...was number 10 in the WC in 98 or 99 anyway..seen his birds put on great shows when he puts them up. Very nice set up...like Scott..he is a construction guy...I think both of there lofts are engineered LOL!! Comes to watch my birds and gives me some good pointers!! His birds..when crossed with Mort Emami birds are a good cross. Never paid for one of my breeders from him.
Mort Emami...very nice man..I have some very good birds from him. They are fast and throw the depth. Gave me a great price on some of his proven stock. Old time Jac bloodline...very good birds.
Tony "Tump Plaza Loft" Chavarria!!! We have talked for hours on the phone about birds. Tony has some very top quality birds. Man they are good. I bought a pair of squeeks from him a couple years ago and they have proved themselves in the stock loft. Took me around LA to meet some very good fliers!! He trusted me to hold 4 pair of his breeders while he moved. Let me pump them while I held them in my loft!!! I have about 20 offspring from the 4 pair and man are they putting some good stuff together. Half are just coming into the roll hard. Can't thank him enough for the conversations and being able to fill my kit box with Ruby Rollers!!
Joe Urbon, Bill Crider, Dwight Wallace, Ken Firl Jay Alimar...great guys and are always a phone call away. Bill has been to my place numerous times...Bill Loves pigeons and it shows. We have great conversations about pigeons He too helped me out with some birds when I lost my team!!
Bob from Slobberknocker sent me a nice 01 Tort Cock..years ago..he knew that I wanted a good cock that was pure performance...he put out his feelers and found me just what I was looking for...that cock has produced some of my best spinners! It was an anonymous fancier that got the cock to Bob..but I can't thank him enough!! I got a nice Lavin Cock and turner hen from him...Velo99 is going to reap the benefits from that pair!
Well that is about it...I have found nothing but great people in this hobby. I will always pay it forward....give to others like they have given to me! So with that...
rock and ROLL

Received 14 birds from a older fellow in California for free. Talked to him on the phone several times and when I had a chance to get down to Cal. I called him and he said come on over. He let me pick out the birds I wanted from all his birds then he said they're free (wow!!). Doesn't want his name put out there because he has been ripped off so many times. People like him are what will keep the pigeon community going. I will pass on the kindness every chance I get.
