Steve, I think you mean birds of well known old families????dont you????modern day numbers would mean nothing, to most of us. I have 5 families of pure Pensoms, from Pensom, and Plona.I have 514,14686,51,1966 lavender family,I can say the many many yrs, Ive flown ,and seen many kits from NJ to CALIF, I can say, without a doubt the fastest, hardest spinning birds ive ever seen are the 1232 birds, velosity unequaled,1232 came out of imports,a blue ck cock,..as some of you know already hes known as the $350 cock in 1947...This blood is priceless to me.And the Power that shows in this family is breathtaking...LEO

The Pensoms and the Fireballs. Take your pick, which is what's in everybody's loft. If you're looking for what type of blood lines in peoples loft, do your homework. I suggest visiting "Who's Who" thread in previous pages and see what type of families are fanciers keeping. There are so many, and there is not one best. Anybody can ruin an outstanding breed in couple of season. My point is the name that is attached to the family of birds’ means nothing. Same as for a pedigree papers.

Steve, I am going to add a little bit to what has already been said by repeating something that was told to me years ago and I have since passed it on to many new fliers since. Most flies are not won by the Quality of the bird but more by the Quality of the manager. Once you get to the level of competition that it takes to win the WC or the Fall Fly than most of the birds are pretty darn good.It all boils down to who is able to spend the time needed to choose and build a competition kit. You have to be willing to cull a bird due to flaws that most would never see and know that by doing so you will be closer to your goal. Joe Urbon
