Coopers Hawk. At least here in central Nebrasks that is the case.

No doubt bar none it's the Falcon, I am very lucky here as I don't have to deal with them but I have seen them in action and they are relentles killers. What I do have to deal with here is Coopers but I am fairly open here with mountains around me and the birds can see them coming in "most" of the time. More times than not a bird can out run a Cooper but Coopers also come in different degrees as far as how good they are at catching pigeons, once they figure it out they can make your life miserable , but what is around you plays a large part, in other words if you are surrounded by tree's and the birds have no time to react to the threat your losses will run much heavier than say living in the middle of a pasture.

Falcons are the problematic here. Only time they get my birds when they are close to land. There is a tall building from where Falcons attack my birds and when birds come close to land that is when falcon suddenly appear and get one of them.
Birds do try real hard but since they were already slow down for landing there is not much opportunity for them...and one has to go

Dmitch - I would suggest to learn more about falcons and the such as predators, to go and check out a book on them. There's a really good book that was published years ago. Something like "North American Falcons and Hunting Hawks". There are two basic sub-species of these "predators". The Falcons and budeos. Budeos are those birds like Red-Tails, Fergininous Rough Legged Hawks, etc. Their wings look more like a jumbo jet when in flight. Whereas a Falcons wings look more like a jet or fighter plane. We don't have to guess as to which one poses the higher threat or which can move the quickest. I've seen both Perigrines and Gere Falcons in action when I was into falconry. They are very quick. As opposed to when I started off as an apprentice with a Red-Tail. We used to use homers to train Red-Tails to hunt, but they never caught a single bird. They seemed to enjoy the chase though! LOL

My birds get attack by almost every falcon there is. Which include red falcon, brown falcon, black falcon,Peregrine and Australian hobby (Little bit smaller then peregrine but looks the same). These killers kill 50 to 60% of all rollers bred per year. I have nesting pairs of peregrines where i live from aug till late january. In these months they dont give up attacking until all birds have landed and are the worst predators for me.
Lucky for me guys who live in the country area get attack by grey falcons as well. LOL
