Gentelmen,I am getting back into Rollers and West after many years and can use some of your expertise.I am in the process of building a new loft. I have always constructed my lofts so that the nesting boxes were at the rear and faced south. This has always worked well for me but the location I will be placing the new loft would not be facing south. Can I get some feed back as to weather this placement is crucial or not? Thanks, George

Hey,
I think it kind of depends on where you live. I live in the Sacramento area. My loft is facing North as well as the nesting boxes. My kit boxes are also facing North. Never had a problem. If we have a North wind...it kind of sucks...but my house blocks most of the wind. I would just worry most about the Winter in your area...which way does the wind blow the rain or snow..

Thanks Paul, Maybe I am old school. It seems to me that I was told or maybe I read, that pigeons in the wild will prefer to set their nests facing south, but if It is not a hard and fast rule thats better. I have a nice location in mind that faces south east that is ideal and since I live in So Cal weather is not a factor . Thanks for your reply! ---------- George Valdez

It must be an old school rule..because we have about a bazillion wild pigeons in my area...and they have nests facing every which way. You should be fine...especially being blessed with CA weather!
