Coach, I am in southwest Michigan. I have no Hardesty birds now but have a bid in on some on the NBRC auction. His email address listed in the NBRC membership does not work so I am looking for info anywhere I can find it. Dan

Highroller,
You can contact Richard Miller or Jim Feasle or James Hall. They are all located in Northern Ohio and fly Hardesty Birds. Look up their phone numbers from the NBRC latest book that was sent out. I saw their birds and are very frequent and small to mid size. Above all very good.

thanks Jstar, I had heard years ago that his family was smaller in size than some, I like the small ones too as long as they can perform.

I had this family in the past. They fly higer and love to fly...but they are kind of very stiff and I never seen roll above 15 feet.

Some of the replies on this topic are pretty far fetched. "Flying high and for long periods of time and stiff" When I here things like this all I can think of is someone who don't know what they are doing with the birds. The Hardesty family is a good family of birds. They can roll with the best of them. BUT THEY ARE NOT FOR THE NOVICE!!!!!!! What I mean by this a novice will have a hard time getting them on point on fly day. I had the Hardesty line and the Roe line. They are proven birds in more ways than one. Joe Roe won the world cup first time out with them. And came in 3rd on his next try. Stiff birds I think not! Carl himself qualified for the fall fly final. He came in 8th I believe for the 11 bird fly. Look at Richard Miller look how many times in has been in the big show with the Hardesty line of birds. Now I'm not taking nothing away from any of these gentllemen. They all deserve a hand shake on there own goals. But it goes to show you a lot of work and knowing your birds will get you there. I for one still have a pair of the Hardesty that produce 60' deep birds and they are frequent. Yep 60' more than a 15' statement. So if you are asking people about a certain bloodline please ask them where they got them from? And what did they did with them when it came fly day? How long have they been in the hobby? Because it is unfair for one person to down grade the birds if they don't have a clue what is going on. Would it be fair to Mr. K if I got birds from Mr. X who got them from Mr. Z and posted a message to a list about how crappy Mr.K's birds were. If your getting started and want to know about someones birds please ask the original breeder about his birds. Or ask the list who has the hardesty family of birds. Hope this helps and best of luck to you all Brian Middaugh

Brian, look at the original post/question. I answered what person was looking for and what I have experienced with Carl. family. This is a message board and every one has rights to post what they experienced. And yes I think you know every thing about “rollers” and all good roller “fanciers”. You are good flier and your name appears in top ten flyer list every year.

Good post, Brian. There is nothing that gets my goat more than someone critcising another man or his birds based on something he heard from someone else. It is negativity that has power to hurt and destroy those that usually deserve better. Go see the man's birds fly, buy the man's birds, breed some of your own and fly them out. Then after a few years of comparing yourself with other guys who have had a similar experience with the family (because goodness knows, YOU could be the problem, not the family of birds)you might then be qualified to render an opinion or judge the man's birds. Until then, you have no more credibility than the old lady gossiping about the neighbors! Cliff

Rauf, From your statement below say for example I'm a new person looking for birds. I don't know you from the guy across town. Now I read your post. Now remember I'm someone new.. "They fly high and love to fly". So I guess it will be easy getting them in the air. Then you say "they are kind of very stiff". Ok now they have poor style!! "and I never seen one roll above 15 feet". Now I'm thinking to myself that these are pure junk birds. Why would anyone want them. I have been in the hobby since 1994. I started with Joe Roe birds and got some from Joe that was Carls. I had seen Joes birds fly many times. Been to his and John Benders house a lot. Talked to them for hours upon end. I had visited Johns house and watched his birds and we expressed to one another about the style that we were seeing. Myself and Brett McCormick were allowed to select our broodfowl right from Joes loft when he got out. And I still never could get the birds to do what I wanted them to do on fly day. It wasn't the birds it was me. I remember a few years back I flew in the fall fly and didn't score a lick. But two days before I would have made a dent in it. Now would that be Carls fault? No it was mine. And you are right you have your opinion!!!! and it will stand for something.... But let these people know more about you when you lower a standard on someone elses birds. Let them know how long you had the birds! and where you got them from? Give them some detail of what happen.Like how long have you been in the sport, how long did you fly them before culling them. ETC ETC. Don't just slam a bird because you haven't had any luck with them. And no I have never been on top I still strive for that honor and I will be there one day. Your good friend Brian Middaugh

No Brian, I did not get the birds directly for Carl. I bought a kit from a guy in south jersey. I kept them for about year and a half and give up as they being stiff. I agree with you because I did not breed, have them for very short period of time and additional they are not directly from Carl. but what ever I experienced with them I posted here.
Thanks, -Rauf

I'm glad you guys posted that info on Mr Hardestys birds. I've been lurking here for a few weeks reading everything i can to help me with my 5 pairs of Hardesty birds. Whether or not their good for the novice flyer means nothing to me. After a hard day at work i enjoy every minute i spend with mine. Thanks for the info!! Tom

There are still some good Hardesty birds out there, most have been crossed and this has hurt the family. Flying them for 6 months or year with any family for that matter one has no right saying much about them good or bad. The name of the game is hard work and spending lot of time with your birds. Learning them, how to feed them. This hobby is not a gimmy. Only those who are willing to spend lot of time will come up with good kits.
