Would you put a bird with bull eyes or a bull eye in your breeder loft?

Are bull eyed birds as good a performer as other birds?

What information do eyes give you?

Nick. Yes I do.Actually some of my best performers have been odd eye birds.
The only thing I have seen in my birds eyes are my deeper rollers(and rolldowns) have the pupil off center and toward the lower corner of the eye.Other than that I don,t pay much attention to eyes except I don,t like to mate Pearl eye to Pearl eye. David

Eye color...feather color...etc...DOES NOT MATTER! Anyway I have a hen in my A team..04 bird that is bull eyed and is about 25-35'..very good bird. I also have a red baldy that is bull eyed on one side and cracked bull eye(meaning half the eye is orange and the other half is Bull) on the other. That baldy is one of my best producing cocks. I had two out of that cock that were very good birds and they are both bull eyed. I also have some yellows that are good..orange...pearl...gravel...It does not matter overall in the scheme of things...but it may be something for your family. One loft may have Bull eyed birds that suck...and another loft my have Bull eyed birds that are great...same goes for the other eye colors. Overall as a general question..does not matter what the eye color is....for a particular loft..may be a different story.

Bull eyes are caused by having a lot of white in the head area. Many Roller families have lots of balds, badges and the like, so you get bull eyes from those kinds of marked birds. I've never seen a bull eyed blue check.

A very good friend and long time Roller breeder told me as long as they have one eye on each side of their head, it doesn't matter the color as long as they perform to standard.

Personally, I like a lighter eyed bird (orange, yellow, or pearl) to look at in the loft. However, I have trouble seeing their eye color when they are a couple hundred feet in the air and spinning like a blurred ball.

I am those guys that believe in the POWER of the eye. The eyes can tell you alot about the creature (Race Horse, Whale, Tiger, Pigeons, Dogs, People, etc.). Not only does it denote the quality of blood in the creature, it'll tell you the health. The eyes are key to Expression!
Now from reading all the W. H. Pensom articles (some guys knock him but I think most of what he said in his days are still true to date) I have on me, he stated that a Bull Eyed bird can be just as good as a Bright Eyed bird. It is just harder to read.
You can get alot from reading a birds eye.
Take for example most Roll Downs or Hard Bumpers. These birds will radiate a 'I'm scared out of my mind' look in their eyes. They will be hesitant to alift as well... fearing crashing to their death. Believe or not, even Roll Downs are smart. (grin)
Another example I have found to be true are birds that have a dirty eye. For what ever reason, they are linked to being bumpers. These dirty eyes give the bird a dead type of look to it's all over makeup.
The last example I can say are that the best Breeders and performers will have a bright crisp Eye color. Their eyes will give them a look that say's 'Let's Rock' or 'Don't Mess with Me' stance.
Just my beliefs that one can learn alot if you examine your best birds or your worst birds...
Observe and take notes is all I can give you on this,
Thor

Would you put a bird with bull eyes or a bull eye in your breeder loft?
Yes, if its performance and overall character make it a worthy specimen to try in the stock pen. One of my best producing cocks is double bull eyed, yet has never thrown one oddly enough.
I watched this bird fly for nearly two years at a good friend's house. Though it is off his best pair and he loved it's performance, he would never breed from it because it has bulleyes. Since then he has seen the results of his offspring and cringes from letting go of such a nice producer, yet still is resigned to not want him back simply because of his bull eyes. He also won't breed from a pearl eyed bird either.
Thus, it's a matter of personal preference and it ends there.

Are bull eyed birds as good a performer as other birds?
Yep, a bull eye is just a tinting, there is color under it, you just can't see it clearly. It has no bearing on if the bird will be a good performer or not. Though I often speculate that a bulleyed bird might have a little better vision in bright sunlight thanks to the built in sunglasses..lol.

What information do eyes give you?
Depends on what you are looking for. It does play a role in the overall analysis of character. As mentioned by others, some hot birds can be labled by the position of the pupil. Yet I have seen stone cold roll downs exhibit fascinating eye character as well.

Aloha,I do pay attention to the eye,I dont get a lot of bulls or half bulls,if they performed to the standard I would give them a try, they would have to be very good tho.Ivan Hanchett visited and picked out some of my friends best birds by looking at what he called the breeder eye.Since then I do pay very close attenion to the eye especially when pairing up.I prefer a orange or lemon, then the pearl.Bulls or halfbulls,Ihave the least experience with.Iwill balance a orange and a pearl at times but only when the oppurtunity presents its.

I agree!! If the bird has (2) eyes, one on each side of it's head, that is good enough. Whether yellow, clear or bull makes absolutely no difference if the stock is good and bred correctly.
