Have you noticed how tore up the secondary features become on those birds with good velocity?

You could probably pick out birds in the loft who are good performers without the owner putting them up for you. Look for the frayed secondary feathers on the wings.

It is sometimes difficult to identify which dark bird is just "screaming" up there when you have 12 dark birds flying. I am finding them in my kit box after flying.....the ones with the chewed up secondary feathers.

Now if you got a champion kit, they all should have chewed up secondary feathers shouldn't they?

Nick when you fly birds that are 97 9/0 dark or blue checkers and the rest are rec/reds, looking at secondaries is a valuable tool for me.
but it doesn't show "how" the bird is rolling but only that it is doing something, feather has a lot to do with what you see also (tight vrses loose), I've had some very good spinning tight feathered birds show no sign at all in the secondaries, while the softer feathered birds really show them chewed up .

Nick, another indication is that the chest feathers will be parted down the middle. You will still have to try and identify the bird in the air to see if it is rolling in good style. Poor style birds can have decent velocity too.
