RO, go to NBRConline.com, click on Directors, then go down and email both George Ruiz in 9A and Marshall Duncan in 9D. It all depends on where you are in the high desert. If you have never flown in this fly before, you need to reach out to the RDs so they know you exist and are interested.
Brian.

Yes it is for NBRC members only, flyers must be a paid member though I am certain there are more than a few non-members who manage to slip through the cracks. I know some who have. Its the RDs job to insure the participants are paid members.

Region 1C finished up our Fall Fly yesterday.Brian Middaugh honored us with his judging.I havn't got all the results but Your's Truly was Blessed to win the 11 bird fly with 146 points.Scotty Rice was a very close Second Place with 143.Some fellow(Don ?) in the Baltimore,Md. area won the 20 bird fly with 360 something points. When I get the complete results I will let everyone know.
I got to meet Scotty Rice after 5 years and he is one heck of a nice fellow. We all know Scotty is the fellow to beat every year.LOL.Great fellow to be around and someday I am going to get the chance to pick his brain about rollers.
I know we all had a Grand time and Brian told me yesterday that he hated to leave us.
Brian had worked four 16 hour days last week just so he could get off work and drive 9 hours to get to my place, catch a couple hours sleep and then start judging our region.3 days judging Region 1C then heading back home to work four more 16 hour days before heading to the Northwest to spend 10 days judging Oregon & Washington this coming weekend.I asked Brian what posessed a man to do all this for nothing. He said he loved the Hobby and meeting everyone.I know these Judges and others that work hard to keep this Hobby going sure don't get the Credit they deserve.
Now its try and get the birds regrouped and ready for the Finals on Oct. 14th.I am Anxious to meet another Great Judge Don Simpson.I just hope this year the birds don't come out of the kit box acting like Buzzards.David

David,

The guy Don who won your region is Don Glenn and Steve Agent came in second place. You can read a little about both of these guys in your current bulletin.I took trip out there this summer and saw some very nice kits. I wrote an article about them in the bulletin. The guys from Maryland True Spinners(MTS)should be able to be very competitive in this region.

David,
Again congrats on a job well done. That is why we have these flys! the best man/kit that day wins. David thanks for the great time at your place. I can't wait to get back up there. I met some great people while I was up there. I didn't want to leave thats how much fun I had. We didn't have to work the long hours today, we got rained out at 6pm. Suppose to rain in the morning too. Again David thanks for the great company....

John,
Don Glenn has Steve's birds. their entire club has the same family. And it is a super club to belong to. Steve and the guys have made a name for themselves and should be proud. I talked to Steve and Don over lunch while I was up there. These two guys are great rollermen. And seems to be very open and honest.
Steve got a fly time that wasn't the best. It was very hot, humid, and bright sun and it showed. By the time we got to Don's a cloud had covered the sun and made it a lot cooler. And Dons birds performed, hitting 23 breaks and two to three 1/2 turns or better.

Best of luck your good friend

Brian,

Myself and Rod Fomby was there in May.We stayed for 3 days and had a chance to meet all the guys in there club and see them fly. They all put up some nice kits.We also had the pleasure of meeting Elric Jenkins, Nan Jenkins and Ray Fleming of Texas. The guys from MTS are doing some good things and have some very nice birds. The kit Don flew when we where there broke close to 40 times, Rod was the judge and was the score keeper and I got tired of writting (LOL). We are both flying birds from Steve. We had a chance to pick some birds out of the air after watching them fly for a few days. We thought we picked the best and the next day something else would show it self.
Rod took first place in the club with them last year and also qualifed for the fall fly the first year flying them.
I'm in first place this year with one fly left(Saturday). This is my second year of flying them.

Thanks Scott.I love winning but the real pleasure is meeting everyone and learning more about these little rollers.I know we had a Grand time this past weekend.Sure I had another bad case of heart thumping, nail biting, not breathing fly but when they said 15 minutes I finally started calming down.LOL.But its like Hunting & Fishing if I can't feel the Rush I may as well quit.
It never rained here for over 3 weeks and then last week we had 2 days of rain and then 2 days of fog.Talk about throwing everything off.But you know all about how it goes.LOL.David

David,

First let me congratulate you on your qualifying.I fly in region 9A. It's been tough trying to keep these guys at bay and hold on to first. It's real close and will come down to tomorrow. I just hope I can get by with out a falcon attack.I flew the fall fly last weekend and had an attack 4 minutes into the fly.I was able to keep the 30 points they scored in the 4 minutes. I flew in the morning and didn't see the birds until just before dark. I have another shot at it because I paid for two kits. I have a young kit that's looking pretty good so I'll try them and hopefully they will have a little better luck than my first kit.I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.
Did you have a chance to see the guys from Maryland fly? if so what did you think about the birds?

I flew last weekend. Friday (20) bird team was a disaster. The weather had turned from Hot (for us) 80-85 deg to being in the 60s. My birds had flown a little high the last 2 set up flies. I had been feeding straight wheat for the last 2 weeks. The plan was to feed 1/3 peas 2 days before the fly. I should have been paying more attention to the birds, and less to the plan. The birds came out flying fast. They had a few waterfall breaks before going up to high to score. I ended up with no score, and they stayed up for 2 1/2 hours.

Sunday was my (11) bird team (same birds).
I fed 2/3 ration on Friday night, and then just a little bit on Saturday. They came out active and stayed down in judging level. The activity dropped off after 10 minutes and was almost non-existent for the last 5 minutes.
I ended up with a score of 123.

Keith,
Good work on your fly, especially the 11-bird. Is your 20-bird kit old birds or young birds? It's a pretty tall order to get a kit of young birds that will break simultaneously with good enough quality to score high in their first year. Seems like they like to waterfall a lot that first year. I just hope my 20-bird kit gets through the moult in time!

Cliff,
The team was made up of mostly 05 and 04 birds. The best in the bunch was the one 06 bird although half the time it comes out of the roll backwards. I am working on improving my birds. I just don't get high percentages of good ones. I was joking that I only had 8 "rollers" in my 20 bird team. Brian corrected me. He said 5. 3 then 2 then 3 then 2 ect ect. When they did get together I had birds that came out of the roll backwards (unscorable). I have been working to concentrate around 2-3 birds, my percentages should get better as my gene pool gets smaller.

I will be heading down to Oregon early tomorrow to watch the rest of the NW fly.

David,

This wasn't the fall fly, it was the local club fly. This was the last fly of the season with first place on the line.It was a very tight all year.
I flew my first kit in the fall fly a couple of weeks ago. I had 30 points on the score sheet in the first 4 minutes before a falcon attacked and the kit skied out. They never came down low enough for the judge to see.I have a second kit to fly this Sunday for the fall fly.We will see what happens this time.

Russ,

They were scored at 456 on the last fly. I don't know what they did because I didn't watch them the whole time. Some said the judge was generous and that may be true.
I say as long as the judge is the same at everyones house then I do have a prblem.
