Hey All, My new kitbox, two compartments, each 32"deep, 48" high and 48"wide. Welded wire doors for ventilation in the front, with wooden lockable doors for security. Release is from a fly pin with large drop down door. I clean each compartment by way of a pull out tray or in bad weather there are lift out welded wire floors that can be hosed off and the box is cleaned from the front. The bottom is protected by 1/2 inch hardware cloth so no criters gain access to the interior. Traps are 4" 22.5 degree P.V.C.
The roof line is large to provide a sun screen for the interior and a rain cover for me when I'm cleaning or feeding. All birds are my young from a start of Tony's RUBY'S. They are out later then I like but it takes time to get a proper box built.

Thanks

that's a very nice kit box there, that's very created...I would like one just like that...BTW the block stand that you used makes sure its solid that it can hold the kit box, I'm pretty sure you have it tested but just some incase of some strong windy day...

Kitbox with all doors closed, the trap landing board folds
over the top and is lockable. All doors are lockable. Notice the double traps. Without the flypen they are conditioned to use the secondary trap. The flypen doubles as a three compartment breeding box if needed by the addition of a few trays and back. Turned on its end the release door becomes an access door for the breeding box.
Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate your kind words.

The front with one side open and one side closed, notice the opening to the flypen inside. All birds to be flown are first placed in the flypen and then released.

lil jess, It's not as nearly as unstable as the picture might lead you to belive. My yard drops off steeply, but the kitbox is sound. As you can see, I had to add a step in front of the second compartment and I'm 6'.

Thanks to ALL!!!!

Nicely done. You may find the doors a little small tho when everyone is trying to get out at once!!The first kitboxes I built last year I made the doors like that size and when it was exit time with 20 or more birds, there were some bumps against the wall beside the door opening. But YEAH!!!

That is a very creative kit loft and the birds will love you for it. Let us know how the birds respond to it after the molt. Your a cool operator in the sport of competion rollers. Good luck with your birds. Ray

Hey Donny, there is only one of me,
Thom the oldfart!
Kelly, I first place all the birds
into the flight pen, they line up on
two perchs that run the length of the
kitbox and then are released through the
drop down door.
Thanks Paul, keep cool!
Thanks to all for your kind comments.

Ralph, The roofing is "Ondura" from Lowe's. It is a heavy roofing material much like shingles but sandwiched between two layers of some plastic like material. It goes on with a roofing nail that has a rubber gromet and seals it's self.
It comes in several different colors. I choose red for the birds to home in on. It comes in sheets, 4'x6'. I hope this helps.

Nice Thom..
I noticed that the wire doors opened up towards the inside. Do you release the birds out of the fly pen, or?

Jerry, Yes, I do, that way I can fly one or both sides of the box. I also recover them by way of the kit box. You, might notice the double 45% traps, one in the kit-box and one on the fly pen, this helps with trap training and if I want I can remove the flypen and still recover them stright into the kit-box. The steel wire doors provide airflow, and additional sunlight.

Hey Jerry, I had not quite finished when the pictures were takein, since then I have added an additional door on the left side for release from both sides into the flypen. The flypen was built with the ability to devide into two compartments but I have never done so. I seperate by sex as much as I can with young birds and therefore fly cocks and hens rather then A and B teams. When one kit or the other is in the flypen they will respond to the feed rattle on the other side and quickly enter their compartment, I close that door and then open the other if I wish.

You really are an old fart you have covered off every detail in your planning for your kit box ,nothing missed.

A very unique design one of the best i have seen

Love the extended roof , floor design and especially the flying pen out the back of the box for release of the birds (keeps the front looking clean).

Looks like am am making some modifications to my boxes this spring as i have 7 ft behind the boxes to work with great idea thanks for sharing.

Hey Ralph, she is a Malamute, 140 lbs. of leave my rollers alone. ;-) They are her birds she only allows me to visit them.

Jim, I bet you are pulling our leg, your shak is probably just fine.

canspinners, thank you for the kind words, the only thing I would change would be a larger flypen, one that goes all the way to the ground, with a concrete floor that can be hosed.

Oldfart is that the addition you said you see coming on,,that would go great behind that kitbox..I have gravel rocks on the floor and half panel,, soon i will concrete it all too,or put those red concrete square, you saw i have on the outside of pen, they only cost 7 bucks here
,and they are 16" by19" less work..if you know what i mean... ----------ps/ I like that Malamute too,
Ralph....

Ralph, I plan to add a full walkin flypen this spring, but I must admit the idea is stolen (with permission)also an additional kitbox on the side closest to the trees that will access the same flypen. The furball, is a baby, she would let me or my wife reach down her throat and play with her heart. She is my wife's running mate,( crazy running Lady)!! My wife runs triathlons and she is her protection while training in the forest!! However, I would not want to be on her wrong side, she is protective of her pack, this includes her rollers!!! I repeat, her rollers!!!

Thom, i am going to push my kitboxes up flush with the front of my breeding coop now.

I figure i will have 10 feet behind the kit boxes to the property line for the flight cages and start releaseing the birds from the back according to your design

Thom looking forward to any pics from your breeding coops

Canspinners, The brood loft is still a work in progress but when finished, I will post a few pics. Wish I could take credit for the flypen idea but it's a standard held over from long ago. Around here almost all the lofts were converted garages with an attached flypen, in the 60's. Opps, now everyone knows why they call me oldfart! ;-)

Yeaah old fart all the flypen ideas i have seen on the web usullally have them on the side or a cage hooked on the front.

i still think the flight out the back of the kit box is unique to you have not seen any others.
The front of the kit boxes stays nice and clean. As i said i will adjust mine in the spring so my flights are in the back as well with a portion of the flight cage spilling over the top of the kit box for flight cage release of birds.
