I am with you Joe on this one. I admire the A style and try to harness as much as I can in my family of birds and work around them. Nothing will ever top ball bearing smooth A style of 30 feet fast spin in my opinion.

How about an exhibition fly, so both sides can show their point of views in the air and all can see what each side is trying get across. Sort of like, show and tell. A few comp guys can fly and describe the performance of their birds while explaining why they think kit comps are so important. And the indvidual guys can fly to show why they think more flyers should pay more attention to individual performance. In any case both get to show why they feel the way they do. Going back and forth will solve nothing. Just call it enlightening each other. JMO...

Kieth I am and will always be Competition first. I dont believe any one bird wonder loft can compete with a loft that breeds for quality kit birds. I said that I would take one A bird over 10 H style birds but that is not saying I wont fly the H style birds. I would be foolish not to. A great A style bird is far rarer than a great H style bird. I have not put a bird in my stock loft in the past 10 years that didnt posess an A style roll. That is all I am saying. It is what I prefer and what I breed for. Not what I always get however. You know how that is.LOL. Joe

I want birds so fast you can't see a hole. I have got and have seen birds show the hole that where junk. Lets speed them up past the hole. Whata ya think? Huh?

The hole and a good exit are good STARTING POINTS.It usully demonstrates a certain level of quality.
I have a little tiny hen. She isnt quite a fast as as I like but she is technically correct. She kits well goes on all the breaks and occasionally starts a break. Right now she is in good standing. In a few years when I breed past her I might look back and think" That bird was crap."
In our programs we should move forward constantly. As we progress our forward motion should slow somewhat as the ideal bird in your loft gets hader to achieve.
Discipline and introspection are the keys to being a great manager. We can all keep records scrape poo and raise some decent birds. Those with the self discipline and an analytical ability are the guy you see in the top ten.
As one of the "Old Guys" on this site if we "Old Guys" step up and direct the discussion I feel there might be less undesired content.

The dilema I have is culling good kit birds as I move forward. It just doesnt seem right to cull a bird thats been part of the A team for a season or two. At what point can you give em away instead of disposing of them in a humane manner?

JDA you can have the hole. I want a good fast A or shrunken A. my preferance but I will stick with it. Believe me when I say I have seen the differences in all styles of roll and in my eyes it doesnt get any better. Joe

Actualy Hector not true unless you are looking at it from the side , from the side even poor birds look decent if they have marginal speed.
Quality is "allways" determined from underneth the bird where everything is seen including wing position, and if the bird has balance you will see wing position clean and crisp , if there is no wing normaly the balance is off, but there is also the exceptional that shows no wing and has balance and is ballbearing smooth.
My personal favorite is the perfect H where it looks like a tennis ball with the wings looking like a thin straight line on the side,it takes speed and perfect balance for this and I with I could say I breed these in numbers but I don't.
A is apealing to me also, but many thing it is not the be st style, I'm seeing more of these in my own birds than in the past .

Well put 99, as to what to do with those "culls" as your program moves past them, if they have been in a good kit for 2 or 3 seasons and they dont fit into your program now they would be perfect for a new commer to the hobby. If they have been in your kit that long they know how to survive and they still have value.

A small Lavender hen against the sky is sometimes hard to see wing position.
The impresssion that I get is the H rollers have more of a smooth roll to them that is easy for the eye to follow. The H roll is more peaceful to watch and seems like the bird is rolling with ease.
The () and A rollers have a more violent roll to them, makes you hold your breath or tense up when you watch them in a hard roll.
