The best kit? Wow, that is a tough one. I can think of 2 that I judged that really stood out.
One was Don Ouellettes kit. I judged him in 2003 or so in one of the big 2 regionals. The kit broke like crazy and every bird was 20+ and fast. The kit ended up going up a bit too high to see as well as I would have liked but it was just awesome down low.
I also judged a kit at Joe Emberton's a few years ago that was very good. The birds were a bit deeper - averaging 25 feet and also fast but maybe not quite as frequent as Don's. I beleive I gave Joe's kit a 1.6, 1.6 for Q and D.
I have had the priviledge of seeing some fine kits at the houses of Scott Cambell, Joe Borges, Chuck Roe, Ramsey Aljouni's, and Jay Starley's, Rich Hayes, Mike wolden, etc. I have seen virtually all of the top flyers in Norcal fly several times each.
Getting out of your backyard and around to the top flyers houses is really the only way to really know what is possible and to begin to understand what good birds really are.
IT sure has been fun!
come to think of it, it's about time to get down to LA to see you guys. I heard there is a good kit or two down there!

I saw two great kits this year. One was at Johnny Smiths house, fantastic team. The other was Willy Wrights kit in the high desert. Willy was not there to see it himself, he was out of town, family emergency, but there where some fantastic spinners in that team. I saw some great teams at Tim Deckers & Jerry Higgins as well. ---------- Ray

Dramaside if you are speaking of the kit Burnette flew in the $$$ fly, that kit that got hit by the falcon, you are right! That was one of the best kits I have ever seen. That kit got hit by the Falcon, broke up in 2 and continued to work like CRAZEEEE! Every bird in the kit was active. That was definitely one of the best kits I have seen. Jerry H's kit in 96-97 was also a pretty nice kit!

I would have liked to have seen that Donny, I herd they where outstanding teams!!!!!!!!!!
Keith, The Reed kit your talking about. I wish I had been there. That changed the way we fly rollers here in So Cal and many other parts of the country. Many of the birds we are working with today came from that kit.... ---------- Ray

After traveling all day for a fall fly last year a member & my self returned to Wendall Carters house around dusk. He sent a kit up and they flew until dark.
¼, ½ ¾ & full turns with a full moon as a back drop was awesome. We traveled all over the East coast and the beast birds that day was in our own back yard!

I have seen 2 one was at Randy Gibson's he hit 900 on that one he had one 20 bird break! The other I saw at Steve Smith's he 1087 on that one if I remember correctly and they were just like little marathon runners they worked the whole fly, a lot of half turns and 3/4 turns! I still see them in my head sometimes!LOL ---------- Sal Ortiz

The best kit for me was Bertie Walton from brum, hes still flying but the hawks have nearly wiped him out, when you saw his kit in the loft there was no uniformaty in colour or markings ,some were odd-eyed miss-marked birds but as a kit in the air they were so busy it was awsome,he won a lot of flys over the years and his birds were much sought after,he close bred a lot of his breeders and the off-shoot of it was that they started throwing a lot of white selfs and these were like gold dust if you could get him to part with them, jim uk.

Bill Torres flew an outstanding kit way back in 1983 when the old CRS was in full swing with all the old timers, that kit I witnessed was the champion kit for that year, back then though they scored the old 1/4 system with no variables, I could only imagine what his score would have been with variables. I was in High School at the time and I could only recall the ooos and awss and how quiet it was in his back yard the whole 20 min.

It would have to be Clay Hoyle's kit the year he won the 20-bird national title. Three trigger birds flew slightly at the top front of the kit. When they broke, the other 17 birds broke. That kit would break on the straightaway leg of the figure eight without setting up. Every bird rolled thirty feet. At times they would all break 30 feet and continue forward flight at the lower altitude...the whole kit! At other times, they would hover, break 30 feet, hover again, shift 15 degrees on the horizontal and then break again without any perceptible forward movement. That kit had it all, man. Cliff

Smoke,
I'll post some of the birds from Monty. I still have 3 original cocks and 1 original hen. I started out with 10 birds but lost 3 to BOPS trying to fly them when I first got them. I had 7 originals to breed from and I lost 3 over the years that went dry on me.I have 13 pair to work with right now.

hey, roller geeks how you doing... the best kit i ever seen was at gary sawyer's house in 1984 1985-ish, i did'nt know what roller pigeons were as i was walking by his home, i actually got startled, as i looked up i saw a water fall of pigeons all in sync, not one out of place, it was a low flying, deep kit around 60 foot, it was something to see, i asked some of my friends what they were, and they told me roller's. next thing i know. i'm building a cage to get in the hobby... since then i have had roller's.... rocky

Best kits ive seen were George Masons on many occasions breaking huge low altitude awsome! Been to Pete Handys twice and both times watched very good kits the 1st time being best it was raining really really bad and the birds just did'nt let up you could see the water coming of them as they rolled. Lastly Mark Bilton some of the fastest deepest birds ive ever seen but the kitting was terrible shame because they really was very good. Steve...
