Here is something to kick aroud , if you chose your stock on expression and type only you would end up with garbage in a very short time.
Yet when I'm looking at a bird for potential stock I'm looking hard at the expression , also if a bird is flown hard for over 2 years and rolls hard without any problems such as non kitting and or bumping you can pretty well count on that bird having decent expression because those that don't have long fallen apart.
Expresion is nothing more than trying to get a read on the charactor, the charactor of the bird shows it self as soon as it hits the sky for the first time on through it's career.
The birds that are of exceptionial charactor are those that have little or no problem coming into the roll, kit like glue, cut off the roll when un safe ect ect, such birds always have decent expression.

Scott that makes you look stupid to ask that even. What does it look like to you? a dog?? I'm kind of sick and tired of you saying to people "there are only a few birds on this site that have right type." or whatever the hell you say along those lines. Well I have seen your birds??? HAHAHAHA they aren't perfect by any means. And I'm KNOW a lot of people would agree. You think your birds are pretty much perfect, but until you actually WIN the WC, keep your mouth shut about other people's birds!

Andrew, constructive(instuctive)criticism,is a big part of life.It not easy at times, but take it with a grain of salt. Its good for the birds and us.Listen to what the top flyers have to say and use what you thinks best. If you suceed right away, great. If you don,t,no problem, you can always go back to the drawing board.
I,ll borrow this from Donnie,if he doesn,t mind.
Hey Kopesta nice pigeon and I want to wish you the best of luck with that bird.Glen.

Harrison, keep in mind that we are looking at "picture's" and that the birds behavior from the time that it hits the kitbox on through maturity plays in huge also on what we do in the stock loft.
Looking at the expression of these birds in a picture can be very dicy to say the least.
From what I see from the expression is they all look about medium in strength, which you will find in many producers and fine performing birds.
Strong expression needs a heavy dose of the roll gene, strong expression and loads of roll gets harder to realize as the strength over rides to roll.

Addressing the character portion of this post, and possibly the expression. All things being equal and speaking about cock's which would you prefer of these two choices. A dominate slightly aggressive bird or a calm could be mistaken for a hen bird. I'm not talking about size but demeanor. O.K., I have two brothers but not nest mates. One beats up the hen, drives her even to the point of stomping on his own young and or breaking his own egg. But, he is one of my best in the air. Kits tight, rolls medium but with good form and makes your heart skip a beat every once in awhile when he goes that little bit extra. The other is slightly deeper, kits just as good but walks softly during breeding season, both produce good birds. The easy keeper will even feed three consistently. Which bird would you base a line on and are these characteristics passed on to the next generation?
I know someone will ask why I fly my breeders and the answer is. There are only three birds in my loft that are considered breeders. Everyone else are fosters with the chance of producing. Everybird in my loft and kit box's are from the first two including a son that is the third breeder or the fosters which are also from the first two. Everyone old or young flys until I just can't justify taking a risk with them. So far, that is one cock.
Thanks, Thom

I think the way the bird shows its expression shows its character. Make sense? The bird should looks confident, able to do the job, looks in control. Then you might say that has a champion character. (Note: I am just guessing!)

A flighty bird might be taken as having weak character for example.
