If a region is doing things within the rule then why castrate them. If your region is not happy because you have less qualifiers then do it also is all i can say. STOP COMPLAINING AND START DOING SOMETHING. IF IT BOTHERS YOU THAT MUCH THEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE RULE.

Paul,
you better not quit. I know you're not a quitter.
Cliff doesn't know what he's spewing about. I was through all this with every fly director from 2000 - now. First you ask to get rid of DNF's and the management decides they want to keep them, then when you use them, the new regime busts your balls. Ridiculous.
Cliff - do your job and fix the rules for only kits flown if you believe that is best and I will support it. But please don't criticize what has been condoned from the start. At one time guys could enter kits without even any intention of flying as a "donation". At least that has been stopped.
Peace, Ken Firl

Hey Cliff, now I know you did not want that to happen. You better get Paul on the phone and offer to buy his feed for a whole year.
While you are at it, offer to pay for his club dues for the next 10 years. A dozen roses for his girlfriend in Pauls name might get him to reconsider.
Without repeating the obvious, Paul is a good man, he does a job that none of us would have the b@alls to do if our life depended on it. I trust Paul and glad we have him here.
Cliff, his word and integrity are everything to him and somehow he feels you have diminished that for him. Make it right my friend...I know you did not mean for this to happen, right? ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Paul, I did not place any blame on you. I asked you questions, which you answered. I am satisfied you think you are interpreting the rules correctly, as I have said repeatedly. On a personal one-on-one basis, I have enjoyed our convesations and you have given me valuabl coaching advise. And I appreciate that, Paul. To hold a position in this hobby requires a very thick skin. Any position can come under extreme pressure on a given date. Like the old saying goes....if you are not pissing somebody off.... then you are not being a leader. I believe you are a leader the hoby...in your region.....and in your community. But if I threatened to quit (and Ihave done so on one occaision)every time Scott or George or Ken gave me crap, or questioned why I do things the way I do, or on what basis that I make the decisions that I do, Heck, I'd have left my position a long time ago. This ain't no popularity contest. We are stepping up to do our jobs as best we can do them. The mere fact that you are concerned about how your colleagues in the sport feel about this issue shows that you have integrity, Paul. It was not my intention to raise any doubts about who you are as a person. We have come to know you as a stand up "go to guy". I regret it if you feel that this discussion has impuned you personally, and I apologize if I have contributed to that in any way. That was never my intention, as you can see if you go back and read my posts. I even tried to close the dicussion on a positive note a couple times, because I was concerned about collateral damage such as this; and even suggested that we take it private. But it is a worthwhile discussion. Several NBRC policy changes have resulted from discussions here on RPDC. These discussions help to shed light on areas that need attention, and lay the groundwork for change. But in any discussion, feelings can get hurt, and there can be casualties. I know. I've been there, before. It's part of the price we pay for being involved in the sport. And our sport has had many casualties of many good roller men.
Regional questions and issues should be handled by that region's flyers and the majority decisions upheld. I feel certain that your region does the same. As an RD, you ran the business of the money and the details, better than most. If a question persists at this point, you are more than welcome to run them by the NBRC president, who may intern submit them to the EC. If you chose to step down, your region will suffer a loss of leadership and I may loose a valuable source of opinions, even though they sometimes differ from my own. The only thing that is being observed, it that any region that consistantly carries 10 or more DNF's, and asks for two or more qualifiers.........LOOKS BAD....though it is entirely within the rules as they exist. Yes, that matters to some.....You and your region will decide whether that matters any to you. Cliff

Tony, Where have you been, buddy? This difference of opinions started with a discussion about the World Cup 50% kits flown being incorrectly applied to the NBRC. The NBRC has no 50% kits flown fly policy. Once that is understood we can better understand why, if any region utilizes 10 or more DNF's to get two or more qualifiers, there may be questions asked....IF that region fully understands the vague NBRC fly policy. WE have two issues at work here, the WC 50% kits flown and prohbition against ghost kits.....and the appropriate use of DNF's in NBRC competitions. I wish you would have added your opinion to the discussion. You may have direct knowledge of your region's understanding of the problems, we are discussing. I regret that anyone's feelings where hurt or feel that their integrity or character was being attacked in the process. That is never my intent in any of these discussions.
Yes, you are right, things got blown out of porportion. I will call Paul and see if I can explain to him that this is nothing but a difference of opinions, and nothing personal. And as I have said more than once, opinions are not fly policy. Cliff

Ken, Yes, it is a bit confusing and I apologize for all the misunderstandings from years gone by. The use of DNF's will always be a part of the fly policy, there is no way to avoid it in the real world. But that is not to say the NBRC fly policy accepts the WC 50% kits flown rule. It doesn't. If you read each of my posts, you will see that I believe that the majority of regions believe they are interpreting the rules correctly, and due to our vague fly policy, I can't say they are wrong. But,on the other hand, they can't say that other flyers in other regions are wrong for trying to encourage all kits to be flown. What no one can deny is that the NBRC has any written confirmation of any 50% kits flown rule. Therefore any region that says we do, is incorrect. Any 50% kits flown policy only applies to the WC fly. The NBRC fly policy is 10 entrants gets one qualifier. Nothing is said about a 50% kits flown... is it? It is my position at this time, to accept that there is a difference within the NBRC as to how regions earn their qualifiers. One small group believes one way and a larger group believes another way. I believe that due to the vagueness in the rules; both think they are correct in their interpretation. I have my opinion, but that is not Fly Policy. It is not my position to "FIX THE RULES," it is the job for all the EC members to recommend any appropriate change to the flyers and the flyers to vote to accept or reject that change.
I agree that Paul is not a quitter. Cliff
