PR the only thing that scared me was when the damn BOP almost scared him off.the birds that havent shown me anything before the lock down are at risk to be put on the BOP menu,or at the feed store.thats how the early development came about.no love.have 2 that R safe.the rest either arnt fast enough or the form isnt to parr,or still tumbling.every year life gets a little bit better.

One of the big mistakes I make is not putting away a potential breeder and letting the bop get it. Now when I see waht I want to see I put them away to breed. I can always correct a mistake but I can never replace the loss. I will never know if a pair is on the right track if I cant see if the babies will produce. ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay

Roller Alley, that is not true. My wife watch over the birds when I am away or late at work. She feeds them per my instructions. When I build a loft or a kit box, I design it to be rodents and pests proof, and child proof. if you put a latch high enough or double latch so a child can not open the door would have saved your breeders.

Along with what others have mentioned. I don't think this was my worse mistake but,it was a mistake anyway. At the time I didn't take the time to plan and design my loft to what my needs were going to be. I kept adding to it.. So,good planning and design will eliminate alot of future problems...

Constantly giving my rollers to a young kid, Knowing his father has a "stering wheel" in his back. Meaning the father will spend money to buy my birds but would much rather use his son to getum for free...Fustrating!!! ---------- "Home of the Ghost Town Roller" K.C.R.C

Well here we go.LOL. It has got to be When I got talking to a naibour and he got on to saying that he use to keep Birmingham Rollers and had taken a likeing to mine. I said that there was a loft for sale that I could get get him cheap. So I got him the shed and gave him a few youngsters FREE. He started off quiet well and we had them flying out within a week. I sorted througth my young bird kit and ended up giving him almost half of them duethem not rolling as good as the other half. This is were it started getting silly. I told him to keep the birds to a strict feed diet that I had set out for him and he just didnt listen. He would feed the birds then let them out, No disrespect to anyone but come on, This guy said he new his stuff. So there we have 15 birds flying back and forth from his to my house all day long. I couldnt let my birds out and still he wouldnt listen. I NO,I NO,I NO, Is all he would say but day after day the birds would be doing this(HIS FAULT OF COURSE) Then the birds ended up looking discusting and I was realy consernd about any getting into my shed or amoung my birds. He stopt coming around to my yard and that was the last of him. To this day he still has no controle over his birds and it causes me nothing but trouble. Almost every time I let my kit out can you be sure he will decide to let his out. I have told him about them been a team, kit and Could he please fly his birds after I do as I am trying to produce a competertive team. But still he acts the idiot. I no that I dont rule the skys and dont have any right in teling people when they can and carnt fly there birds but I was just asking this guy if he would work with me and give me some open sky for half hour. I wake up some mornings hearing cocks chasing hens on my loft and trying to get in. I have kept my cool for I dont no how long but its game over now. Any birds that I can trap will be diverted past his house for sure. Its the biggist mistake I have made during my pigeon courier and I have learnd the hard way. So please guys before you help anyone out be sure to do some home work first otherwise it may just come back to bite you on the bum like it has me. I no that I can mumble on some times but thats just me. Love talking about my and your pigeons. Keep um rolling guys. Harrison H.K.R ROLLER LOFT HULL UK.

My now friend who se me up with rollers wouldnt mind me putting this down. He has a no prisoner policey and I have told him every time I see his breeders out that he his crazy. He would say I just love to see them fly. Carnt stand to see them hanging on the front of the wire looking out. And i agree its somthing I aint much of a fan of either. BUT when you are talking your STOCK there is a fine line. I have seen several attacks on his birds but only his young kit. I said steve you need to lock them stock down as its sooner than later. He agreed and said he was going to build an avairey on the back of his breeders loft for them and take them out of the kits and lock them down. well a couple of weeks ago he had a attack on his breeders and lost a mealy cock and self white hen. VERRY VALUBLE birds to him. This was the final straw for him and I hope he as stuck to his word and put them in the breeders section out the way. About 5 days after the attack I was round at his place and said were is the old blue cock. He was litrely running from kit to kit checking for him. He had gone. I would say one of his(TOP 3) PRODUCERS. farther to my two blue cocks. He as a son that is as good in the sky but he now as to find out if he can replace its farther in the breeders. I dont no what goes througth his head when he lets them out but whatever it is I hope it as changed. So thats my friends biggist mistake (that I no of) As I have learnd from you guys ( you can-not let feelings and having fave birds ect... get in the way of your aim/goal. Dont keep a bird bcause he looks great, but carnt roll. He his tame and flys to you but carnt roll. You no whats best for you and your birds. Just dont let it take somthing like it did my friend before you realise it. Good look guys. And every mistake is a lesson learnd. yours harrison H.K.R ROLLER LOFT HULL UK

I'm with Cliff Ball. I've made every mistake known to mankind. Sometime when things are going bad for me i think the worst mistake was Buying 12 birds for a quarter apiece from Ralph Bellamy in Compton Calif in 50s. I flew them out and found out what a real roller is supposed to do and have been hooked ever since. Jim Bowen

I am still making big mistakes. Probably my biggest mistake happened about 9 years ago when I let a salesman talk me in to buying "the absolute best performers". Many were "once in a lifetime birds" What a waste of time and effort. Because of my stuberness not wanting to give up and feeling that the problem of thier crappy performance was all my fault I stuck with them far too long......what a waste. ---------- Just My Take On Things

Hard to name all the mistakes. The worst mistake I have made in Rollers is losing my patience with the Doug and Don Ouellette birds by listening to all those who said they aren't competition birds, are too hard to fly, and you can't keep them down. Fortunately for me the foundation of my program still revolves around these families and I have learned that you have to be a master at breeding and flying these birds before you will be rewarded. I was blessed to have been given such quality birds to start with in the first place. Next big mistake was posting a personal email of Cliff Ball's on this site that was forwarded to me by someone else. Very poor judgement on my part and I live with that to this day. Biggerst mistake though was one I made early in my roller career was letting the competition bug bite me bad and let that take precedent over time with my wife and son. Fortunately I remedied that in one season! Family comes first. Respect for others comes second. And then rollers comes third. The best mistakes are the ones you learn life lessons from! Enjoy your next fly! Don M. LVRC
