For those jumping up and down about what Jerry wants to do with his birds take a chill pill. Some of you seem to be proud to spout dogma that make you sound like clods. Check yourself and ask why do you think it is any of your business what anyone does in their backyard?

If you want to actually add something of value to this thread, and provide any insight, start with:

* HOW do they roll?
* What about frequency?
* Are they deep?
* Do they have good style? X or H or A or ?
* What's the velocity like?
* How's the feathering?
* Do they have good control?
* Do they kit well?
* Do they perform in concert?
* Are they a strong birds?
* What is the size?
* If bred for performance, does it affect the expression of white bars?
* Etc...

You know, the kind of questions you could be asking and sharing about your loft full of champion rollers. jeesh

Hey Jerry, to followup your last post with a couple questions, in your estimation, is this bird performing to - or near the aerial standard and how would you rate the bird as to some of the bullet points above?

At this time, would you consider this bird or any of its close relations to be sufficient to circle the wagons and build a strain around due to the high expression of performance traits?

I have never seen any of the above colors in a UK loft.
I no that you guys in the USA are verry muh into genetics. Are these colos a genetic project gone wrong? Also Are these birds PERFORMERS? or SHOW?
I have never seen any of the above in any oldschool videos or Books WINNERS WITH SPINNERS. Surely if these colors was a STANDARD BIRMINGHAM ROLLER color then they would atleast be ONE in the book?
Yours in roll harrison uk. hull.

Harrison, Me myself raise pure pensoms,old school birds, but if these guys like to work with genetics good for them, I have seen smokers in all colors and if no one experimented with anything where would we be, say black and white T.V., AWESOME invention BUT someone experimented with COLOR and now how many B&W TVs are around ? Same with rollers, someone just might come up with the ULTIMATE COLOR ROLLER. Now what would happen if say some guy entered competition with a kit of color rollers and blew some old school guy right out of scoring. would they still not be rollers of some sort?

The Bigger the Dream the Bigger the Leap

Katcher what line of birds are you flying? Whos birds are you flying? Are you keeping them pure? Not everyone here wants to carry on another mans work, nor do they wish to ride that man's coat tail. I do understand that some are not fully capable of moving forward themselves. Maybe this is the real problem..

hey tony the answer your question no at this point and time the birds that i have out of that hen in question are good birds they kit very well they spin the depth is in med range 15 to 20 ft. good feather qaulity and control i have not had one bump yet even when in the molt . now some have the problems im having. is style some rolls are sloppy and some are not no consistantcy and they are not as frequent as i would like and they hardly ever break but it is a work in progress i do not try to breed for silver bars but the cock i have her on is a saddle back and at times at least every other round i get silver bars and i have gottwn some excellent birds off this pair i have gotten a few blue bars that lights up the sky

Hey Harrison, I think the larger more important point to be made is are these birds doing it in the air? I say allow Jerry to invest his time and effort into his stock and let him come to his own conclusions. There is nothing wrong with letting him do his own thing. Wouldn't you agree?

Hey Jerry, I think that is a pretty good evaluation! Interesting about the blues off this pair. Now will you give some thought to putting these blues back on the parents and see what they produce as far as roll or will you focus on breeding for offspring that have the color trait?

Tony I like your approach let the guy do his thing and see how it goes let him be his own judge .he don't need nobody to judge him unless its a competition. that should be the only time . Pat I like your post make sense..I have notice since reading old post this color thing has been going on since 2004 and instead of pushing these guys away I see more into colors now..so I say let them be they having fun we non color guys are not buying their birds so there is no need to worry ..and as worrying they selling these color birds as pure to new guys hey you can't control that neither just do your own thing and let them do theirs...peace ...

kel thats what i am saying, but to me its more of thinking about it in the long run what are all pastel and rainbow color half and half rollers going to to to the BIRMINHAM ROLLER SPORT OR HOBBY ????? JUST IMAGEN HOW MANY NEWBIES ARE STARTING OFF WITH WHITE BARS AND PINKY AND DILUTES AND PASTELS PENCILS MILKYS OPALS AND GOLDY CHECKS AND PINKY CHECKS ????? JUST IMAGEN 10 TO 20 YEARS FROM NOW WEN WE GO TO A SHOW GUYS WILL BE DONATING THESSE SO CALLED ROLLER ????? THIS WILL AND IS AFECTING THE HOBBY OR SPORT IN A BAD WAY A REAL BAD WAY!!! THE ONLY ONES THATS DONT THINK SO ARE AGAIN ALL THE LITTLE MEN THAT LOVE TO HAVE FRUIT LOOPS AND LUCKY CHARMS INSTEAD OF JUST GOOD OLD CHEERIOES OR JUST THE ORIGINAL KELLOGGS CORN FLAKES!! LOL I KNOW THEIR ARE ALLOT THAT WILL DISSAGRE!! BUT I KNOW ITS ONLY THE MEN THAT ARE IN IT FOR CUTE BIRDS THAT WILL ALWAYS FIGHT THE RAINBOW WARS!!! WHAT I BELIVE IS THAT YOU GUYS SHOULD STOP SHOWING AND PROMOTING thesse types of bird just keep them in your back yard dont get all the newbies started with such fake birds!! then they fall in love with thesse colorfull birds and all the color batels and they become just like you guys fighting about how good their white bars and pencils are!!!

Tony, I have two reduced hen's in my stock loft and three cocks that carry reduced. They were all picked for exeptional performance in the air and they all are reproducing there self performance and color wise. When some guy's stick there head in my stock loft they may look at it and think there trash because there is alot of birds of color in it, but if they can't perform to or above the standard they dont breed at my place.

Hey Katcher, well I think the best thing to do is to have news guys read this site and get their information from the guys who are actually doing it. I mean look at Ty, he says he has birds that perform to standard, can't beat that now can you? Jerry says his are still a work in progress, these are the kinda statements we might hear from purists like you and me?!

Rather than ridicule and put down that which we don't agree with, let them have their say and time will be the judge. There are enough differing opinions on RPDC over this issue that any newbie will or at least should proceed with caution before buying "fruit loops" roller or "pure" Birmingham Rollers.

I think the posting policy mentions ridicule as being a violation, no? Anyway, enjoy your rollers, life is short, strife makes it shorter still.
