Once again Don, great post.
Bill, I understand exactly with what you are saying. That is probably the reason for my rants once in a while.. lol..
List, I apologize for getting a little sideways on this one..
I will say, I learn something new every day I fly my birds and every year I try to breed better ones. I am a true believer of the KISS method. Good luck and keep them flying.. ---------- Sal Ortiz

Thanks Bill and Sal. Actually the birds I started with were from Doug Ouellette, sold to me out from under him- long story. Don Ouellette definitely discouraged me from pedigree breeding. Doug didn't tell me to pedigree breed, he just recommended that I stock 4 birds out 5 or 6 specific pairs before flying anything out. So in a sense that would be pedigree breeding. But I chose to go that direction and was fortunate that Doug and Don Ouellette mentored me. Great guys with great rollers. You are correct. I didn't mean anything disrpectful on the pedigree breeding towards anyone. In some cases it works but in most cases it is much better to fly the birds out, pick them from the air, breed them and prove them as producers, and go from there. So many people are caught up on a name behind a famous bird or breeder. I've been there done that. Thanks for letting me clarify. Also, I haven't looked at all the features on the site Tony provides. I will set up my profile. Enjoy your next fly! Don M.

This is a good one Tony, That's why the responces vary soo much. Every one does things diffrent to get a Common result and for me and others in comp that is to get 20 bird's in a kit performing to the standard of the breed. Some people breed off pedegree, or Blindly, word of mouth ond so on. I started off using indivdual breeding pens and the power pigeon program for the better part of 7 year's. I felt I knew what I was Doing then as the birds got better. Now I think diffrent based on alot of things. Now pedegrees on "My" birds arnt my #1 priorty, as I dont really have the time for indvidual breeding. I thought really hard on what I want outta my families of rollers and came to the conclusion I wanted a family of birds that produced a high number of Good rollers. I feel Im on my way, I just want a loft of good birds. So now I been breeding open loft and with great Results, they all go back to acouple of birds on each side of the families so I just keep the families seprated. I am really happy as all the birds look the same and perform the same (For the most part) so yea I know wha't im doing for me,,,,,LOL and that is personal first, then peer reconition for a good family of rollers and not nessarly the way I did it. People can strive for the same thing just in a diffrent. Thanx for the post...1
